Abstract: Modeling Quantum Dynamics for Material Response

Understanding the response of materials to perturbations (laser light, projectile impacts, electrical currents etc.) is a critical component to accurate multi physics modeling. For many systems of interest, experimental measurements of such response are difficult to obtain or interpret. Thus, ab-initio quantum mechanical modeling is necessary. Depending on the perturbation, time-dependent electron dynamics, ion dynamics, or both may need to be resolved. This talk will briefly overview our efforts for two areas of interest: molecular photo-physics and dense partially-degenerate plasmas.
