Los Alamos

Over the years the Program in Applied Mathematics has developed close ties with Los Alamos National Laboratory (in neighboring New Mexico) and its Center for Nonlinear Studies in particular. Program graduate students frequently work on research projects there during the summer and, in a number of cases, work on dissertations jointly supervised by Applied Mathematics faculty and Los Alamos Staff Scientists. Los Alamos provides a state of the art high performance computing environment which has been used by Program students in the course of their research. The Applied Mathematics Program and the Center for Nonlinear Science hold a regular joint workshop at which Program and Center students and postdoctoral researchers present their work. The Los Alamos partnership is now part of a consortium including the University of Arizona, the University of New Mexico and Arizona State University.
