Abstract: Stochastic differential equations and their applications
I will give a brief introduction to stochastic differential equations and name several applied problems in which they naturally appear. In particular, I will mention open quantum systems, emergent behavior in swarms and bacterial colonies, and a model of gene expression. The talk will be nontechnical, presenting potential areas of research rather than specific problems. Suggested research directions will include both analytical and numerical problems.
