Abstract: System 2 Applied Mathematics

In this presentation I hope to cover quite a few topics:

1. I will start by telling you why you need to pay serious attention to selecting research focus/advisor (this is what Math 586 is about)
2. A bit of philosophy. Will give you my subjective view on a modern way of doing Applied Math (thus title) and, in fact, doing research in any other field. 
3. Will give you a brief tour through the topics of my research in recent years (in applied math for turbulence, energy systems and epidemiology), emphasizing contributions of the AM program senior students working with me.
4. Finish, discussing future projects, that is listing topics of research where I am either  looking for or may be looking for students.
