Chan Abstract: Astronomical Data Analysis on the Cloud---the Laniakea and AstroContainers Projects

There is a large gap in computation in astronomy.  Traditionally, theorists use supercomputers to carry out large scale numerical simulations, while observers use their laptops to carry out data analyses.  As observations gathering more data than ever, data analyses for modern astronomy no longer fit on laptops.  Cloud computing is a solution.  Here, we introduce two related projects, Project Laniakea and the AstroContainers Projects, that use Docker container technology to address the portability, scalability, and reproducibility of data analyses.
