Title: Tools of the Quantum Statistical Mechanic

Abstract: Properties of materials like magnetism and temperature arise from average behaviors of large systems of interacting particles. The job of the quantum statistical mechanic is to understand and rigorously describe these statistical properties of systems that evolve according to quantum effects. This talk will serve as an introduction to the work I do in quantum lattice systems. I will begin with a basic setup for finite systems of interacting particles. With this background, I will introduce some of the tools used to analyze physical models, how to rigorously derive results in the thermodynamic limit, and some interesting research problems.
